I teach a class of three-year-olds who do not have developmentally appropriate scissor skills. What are the best scissors to use for this group? Thanks so much!
Hi there, welcome!
This is a very wide variety of fine motor abilities and safety awareness when it comes to three year olds. I would honestly start with plastic scissors that they can practice using when they’re playing with play dough to practice holding the scissors and opening and closing the plastic blades. If you’re able to closely supervise, I do like the spring loaded or loop scissors to help with the opening of the blades, which will give them that gentle tactile feedback about the squeeze and release. Here’s one to try if you’re interested.
