My son sleep regression at 6 months

Hi, I’m new to this so I’m not really sure if I’m doing this right, but wanted to ask my son hit 6 months and he’s waking up 5x during the night. Before he will do 2x the most and sometimes he would go with our waking up. I’m a first time mom so I’m not really sure what’s happening or I’m doing something wrong.

First, you’re not doing anything wrong! This is totally common for babies who need help falling asleep at bedtime and nap time. The good news is, it doesn’t have to stay this way!

To explain why he’s waking so often in the night…both adults and kids, alike, experience natural wakings throughout the night, as we slip in and out of sleep cycles. For adults and kids who are able to put themselves to sleep independently, as they experience those natural wakings, they know how to put themselves right back to sleep. For babies and kids who rely on quite a bit of help getting to sleep initially (i.e. rocking, feeding, patting, etc.), as they experience those natural wakings, they wake up all the more looking for that same help getting back to sleep.

So this is why sleep training is so helpful! When we teach our little ones to fall asleep independently at the onset of nap and bedtime, they are able to connect those sleep cycles on their own. Unless, of course, they still need a night feed. In that case, we give the night feed, but keep them awake so they’re able to fall back asleep on their own when we’re done.

Here’s a blog post with my top baby sleep tips:

Does all of that make sense?

Yes thank you so much. I will try it!
