I’m a fist time mom of a boy.
He is 17 months old… he sits with a curved back (hunchbak) and slight hyperactive ankles.
Plz suggest what can i do
Really upset about his hunchback
Hi @Mum2020, welcome to the community!!!
It may be a good idea to check in with your pediatrician that your toddlers alignment is on track.
Here are some things you can try:
Have him sit on an elevated surface during playtime on the floor-a step stool, a rolled up towel, a boppy pillow etc.-this would be good during sedentary activities, not when he’s moving around to play
Continue with tummy time and crawling to strengthen the muscles needed for posture even if he’s past these stages. Read books or color on his tummy and crawl through tunnels, under chairs etc. to build core and back strength.
Have him do a lot of reaching. In either sitting or standing, try holding toys above him just out of reach to help stretch and strengthen.
As for the ankles-it really depends on how much and how long he’s been walking for. If he’s a new walker, give him some time to strengthen.
If you’re not seeing progress with these activities over the course of a few weeks, it may be a good idea to reach out to a local therapist to check in.
Hope this is helpful!
